Dr. John Schwartz
Dr. John Schwartz completed a residency in canine sports medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Florida. He earned his veterinary degree from Midwestern University and holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Boston University and a master’s degree in microbiology from Colorado State University. He completed a small animal rotating internship at VCA Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in Denver, Colorado, followed by a specialty internship in canine sports medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Florida. Prior to veterinary school, he researched cartilage, tendon, and fracture repair using novel therapies such as stem cells and platelet-rich plasma at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research at Northwell Health and the Orthopaedic Research Center at Colorado State University. Dr. Schwartz is a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP) through the University of Tennessee and holds certifications in veterinary acupuncture from both the Chi Institute and the Canine Rehabilitation Institute. He is also PennHIP certified, a specialized radiographic technique used to assess hip laxity and aid in the early diagnosis of canine hip dysplasia.
Dr. Schwartz’s clinical interests include:
• Diagnosing and managing lameness in canine athletes
• Regenerative medicine
• Orthopedic and neurologic rehabilitation
• Sports conditioning and injury prevention
Central to his practice, Dr. Schwartz values non-surgical approaches to maintaining mobility and comfort in geriatric patients. He also incorporates rehabilitation strategies for neurologic mobility conditions associated with intervertebral disc disease and lumbosacral disorders.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. Schwartz is an avid cyclist and enjoys spending time outdoors with his dog, Darcy, who has been by his side throughout every stage of his veterinary career.
